Why is it . . .

. . . that I can blow forty bucks taking the family to the Fiesta at the Catholic church, (rides, raffles, food), and will go with my husband to an overpriced weekday lunch to get some kid free time when we could have accomplished the same thing at home with a tuna sandwich, and consider library fines an acceptable line item in the family budget BUT I cannot bring myself to get a pedicure because THAT would be a frivilous waste of money???

Do it just once and I promise that you will understand it is NOT a waste of money.

It is worth it....from someone that just got one...

You are suffering from Severe Calvinist Aversion to Seeming Self Indulgence (SCASSI).

The treatment, as Mindy pointed out, is behavioral modification therapy, i.e. having a pedicure (preferably one with the hot wax treatment).

I know because I too, once suffered from SCASSI, but praise God have been cured!

Because Presbyterians hate toes? (I do) Because after all that TULIP talk, you're tempted to tiptoe through the tulips and are afraid that having cute tootsies would make you even more so tempted? Because I need one more thing to say here to make it a triplet and I can't think of one?

Consider it an ongoing Maundy Thursday spiritual practice. Chanting/moaning during the foot rub part is appropriate. And it shouldn't cost more than $25 -- a deal compared to the Fiesta.

Dunno, but suffer from the same syndrome. It was only when I actually stopped and LOOKED HARD at my hair, that I realised that economising on haircuts was not a wise move...but even that still feels unbelievably self indulgent at times.
So, go for it in the spirit of research and see if the guilt afterwards is as huge as you anticipate, or whether it can in fact be absorbed quite happily, thank you!

Ooh, that Good Friday justification is a good one. Isn't justification a good thing when it comes to faith?

This coming from one who is also unable to cough up the cash for a pedicure. Though I am very partial to Korean spas. Cheap and marvelous.
