Am I Raising a Future Mega Church Pastor?

My 10 year old son is singing the first verse of Once in Royal David's City as a solo at the beginning of our Lessons and Carols Service on Christmas Eve. This is his first solo ever. Last night I took him to a one-on-one rehearsal with our choir director prior to the main choir rehearsal. I sat in the "office" part of the music room while he and Ms. Director did their work.

As they concluded their work, Ms. Director told him he didn't need to wear a choir robe, just a nice pair of slacks and a dress shirt--and that he could sit in the front pew until it was his "turn".

My son was quiet for a moment. They I heard him say quite earnestly,
"Since this is Christmas Eve and we want everything to be really special, I think I should wear one of those red choir robes and that maybe we should have a spotlight on me . . ."

Can a Lucite pulpit and back-up praise band be far behind???

Your raised your own boy tenor just so he could sing at the start of the Lessons and Carols Service, didn't you.
When he's done his bit at your place, could you send him to us? Been listening to the Kings Colleges Lessons and Carols all week and wish we had someone here to start it that way.

green with envy....

Oh how lovely! Hugger Steward did a mean "Once in Royal" before his voice broke, and the Dufflepud ain't alf bad either (and this is going to be his last treble Christmas [sob]...but in these parts, in true Kings tradition, the chorister who is doing the solo is told just before the choir processes in to the darkened church. As a strategy to reduce stage fright it's sadly lacking...because it means that ALL the likely trebles AND their mothers are equally anxious ;-)
Hope he does beautifully...Look out for spotlights on ebay ;-)

I love the Kings tradition, hadn't thought about the equally shared parental angst aspect.

Great story, Rebel.

Perhaps a few sparkles on the robe, too?

Lucite pulpit!!! Bwaaahahaha! How about letting him use a little extra hair spray when he's getting ready for the service. Gotta start training that preacher hair at an early age...
