Nailed

So. I finally had my first pedicure. I dealt with the guilt factor by making it a mother-daughter quality time bonding experience. (My husband and son had gone to a Dodger's game as a father's day weekend adventure, so we needed an equivalent "girl thing".)

I must say it was something like the first time I went into a Starbucks. Just as a dozen years ago I didn't know the difference between a Latte, a Breve and a Chai , I stood staring at the options/prices list completely bewildered by a foreign vocabulary. What is a Full Set Crystal and how does it differ from a Full Set Silk? What could a Pink and White Fill be? What is a Spa Ped.w/Parf.? We stuck with what we knew: a plain manicure/pedicure. My daughter chose bright blue polish.

The other eye-opening bit was the number of men in the shop. Regular looking guys--one there with his own young daughter. I guess it just makes sense in a part of the country where we all go around in sandals a good chunk of the time that everyone wants their feet to look good. And Lord knows I've seen enough guys with SCARY looking feet. Still, my inner midwesterner was exclaiming, "Well, I'll be jiggered!"

All in all an educational experience.

Now, does anyone have a copy of "Nail-Shop Lingo for Dummies?"

Next time you want the Spa Ped. w/Parf. Trust me on this.

Not having the dummy's guide is one thing that keeps me out! The other: $$$ ;) But, I'm so happy you had a good time. Love the bright blue polish. My DD2 loves polish of all kinds and, at 7, is quite competent at doing her own. I played with the "Avon Junior" polish when I was a kid...it was just part of the dress up kit! LOL!

Ahh, I found pedicures to be so therapeutic. Plop myself in the massage chair, sit back, relax, don't have to make conversation. Sometimes I long to be back in California were there seemed to be a nail place on every corner and I ould just walk-in whenever my heart desired. Not so much in a small town. Did you get flowers on your big toes?

Full sets refer to artificial nails, of the finger variety. There are several kinds of products used to achieve this, thus the different names. They are not for beginners, as they require a fairly long-term commitment, and faithful (every 10-14 days) returns to the salon. I've been drinking that kool-aid for about 10 years.

Thanks for the reminder. Appointment at 3:15 today.

I too *drink that kool aid* as cheese puts it and will never go back! My place does not have the spa option and I would LOVE that!

I had my first Mani/Pedi with my daugher a few weeks ago. Loved both, but especially the pedi - that massage chair is the bomb. It will probably be a while before I can afford to go back, the car is sick. Oh well, that's life.

Yes, go for the Paraffin.

I rank the ped chair up there with the shampoo sink at the hair salon among the few places where I feel totally served.

My primary love language is service - since my hubby speaks gifts, I gotta get my fill somewhere!!!

BTW -freshly minted shimmery lavender on the toes and a more conservative reddish-mauve on the fingers as I type. Seems Father's Day is a great day to get some girl stuff accomplished!

Salons, be they toe or hair, totally freak me out. In a 'bull in the china shop' kind of way. I'm all impressed that you tried it and survived. Can you please write an office dummies-type guide and pass it on to those of us who are less intrepid?

Yep, the spa chair is the way to go.

Good for you!! It's an experience that grows on you after awhile. Blue polish!! Cool.

New blogging friend of Katherine E. and lovely others here. . . .I'm so impressed you did this and ended up with bright blue polish on your toes! I have never had a manicure or a pedicure and sometimes feel odd wearing sandals around in south Texas most of the year. However, not enough to go into such a salon/spa or whatever! However, my 17 year old daughter MJ enjoys it all.
