Direct from the WTF Department

So I get this e-mail from someone in my church:

Great sermon last week. Next week you have to tell us how to DO it. I have a bet with someone who doubts you have the nerve. You have to help me win.

Umm--betting on sermons?? All righty then.

Wow, this causes one of those "deer in headlights" responses. Then laughter. Do keep us informed as to what you decide.

How are your nerves feeling? :-)

Well now, that was a brave email to send.

wow. we used to bet on sermons when we gave them in seminary (though not often) - $5 if you could incorporate a specific movie quote and have it tie in to what you were preaching, that type of thing. But cheese is right - they aren't sleeping!

Huh.
I'd like to know, "DO" what? I'm very curious now.

I'm with Songbird...DO what?

Whoever wins the bet... maybe you could remind them about tithing?

Perhaps it's from living close enough to Santa Anita to visit regularly.

And I'm gonna echo the "do WHAT?"

I'm not sure what they heard me telling them to DO either. And I'm pretty sure I know who the doubter is--and if I'm right, until I step into the pulpit and holler "Bush Sucks! Vote Obama!" that person will still judge me to be lacking in nerve and my friend will lose her bet.

Be careful with the politics. 4 years ago, I told the congregation to vote for Bush because he deserved to clear up the mess he had made with the war. A Democrat reported me to Presbytery for telling the congregation to vote for Bush; a Republican reported me the same week for denigrating the President.
Nowadays, I draw political cartoons:
