Just as we were enjoying the last moments of morning slumber, our daughter appeared in the doorway and announced dejectedly that the Tooth Fairy had failed to deliver. I groaned and silently awarded myself another Bad Mom of the Week award. Then I explained that if the Tooth Fairy has many deliveries to make in a particular town, she sometimes can't get it all done by morning, so she should check her pillow again after breakfast.
She followed my advice and came racing into the family room shouting, "Mom! You won't believe it! The Tooth Fairy left me TWO dollars this time!" My spouse and I exchanged glances, silently working out that we had both snuck into her bedroom and slipped a single under her pillow.
Meanwhile, big brother explodes, "That's not FAIR! The Tooth Fairy only left me ONE dollar last time and once she only left me 65 cents!"
I'll tell you what's not fair. Monday the dentist informed me that neither of them has enough room in their mouth for all their permanent teeth and gave me a referral to an orthodontist.

oh, Mom, I'm sorry about the orthodontist. That is a true bummer...as the kids will soon find out.
Sorry bout all that. But thanks for the laugh!
I feel your pain. We start our fourth round of braces (and remember I have only three children) on Nov. 2nd.
younger kids always get EVERYTHING and more of it!!!!!! IT'S NOT FAIR!!!
Maybe you can get the kids to start leaving money under your pillows? and save up?
Yikes! Sorry about the orthodontist!
When my oldest lost her first tooth, an older couple in our church gave me 3 one dollar bills. And thus the tradition of the "first tooth bonus" was begun. Of course by the time the youngest lost her first tooth we had moved and there was no older couple present to fund the tradition ... However, I will always remember the folks who started the traditon and how much they loved us, shown in small ways and large ways with great kindness
Been down the ortho route. It's a pain, but the results are terrific.
(Says the mom whose children will never be called the awful names I was called in childhood.)
Like Songbird, we have been through 4 rounds of braces with 3 children. Sigh. Do NOT get into the braces business with a child who is a total space cadet. Two of ours did fine. He of the space citizenship lost 3 retainers ($125 each, cost not included with braces) in the space of about two months. We had to start completely over a few years later when he had developed some level of consciousness.
